    How permanent redaction works here

    1. Choose the PDF and move through its pages.
    2. Drag over every sensitive area, or enter exact percentages with the keyboard controls.
    3. Create the redacted copy. Each page is rendered into pixels, the marked pixels are replaced with black, and a new PDF is built.
    4. Open the download and inspect every page before sending it.

    Why the output becomes image-based

Visual overlays are not reliable redaction. Text may remain behind them, searchable, selectable or extractable by another program. Rebuilding the document without its source objects gives a simple security boundary: the output contains only the final page pictures after the black areas were applied. The cost is equally real—accessibility, search, links and forms disappear—so this tool says so before processing rather than hiding the trade-off.

    Frequently asked questions

Is drawing a black rectangle enough to redact a PDF?

Not usually. A rectangle added to the original PDF can leave the text underneath selectable or recoverable. This tool does not copy the source page objects: it renders each page, covers the marked pixels, and builds a new image-only PDF.

    What document features are lost?

Selectable text, search, links, form fields, comments, attachments and source metadata are not copied. That destructive result is the security trade-off.

    Are my pages uploaded?

No. Preview, marking, rendering and PDF creation all happen in this browser tab.

    Should I keep the original?

Yes. The redacted copy is intentionally irreversible and image-based. Keep the original privately until you have checked every output page.
