Your files

Every tool on shrink.run runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your files are never uploaded, transmitted or seen by us. When you compress an image or merge a PDF, the work happens on your own device; the results exist only in your browser's memory until you download them or close the page. We could not access your files even if we wanted to — the site has no server-side processing at all. Nothing is kept, either, apart from one hand-off that carries a file across a single page change and is described in what we store on your device.

What we store on your device

A few clearly limited things can be written there. The first is a download one tool needs: the image-to-text reader fetches an English recognition model — a few megabytes — and your browser saves it in its own storage (IndexedDB) for this site, so the second image you read does not download it again. It is a language model, not your data: nothing about your images, your text or your visit is written into it, and it never leaves your device. You can delete it whenever you like by clearing site data for shrink.run in your browser's settings; the tool will simply download it again next time.

A file hand-off is measured in seconds. When you drop a file on the home page and then follow one of the tool links beside it, that file has to survive the page change somehow, so it is written to the same browser storage and picked up by the tool on the other side. The tool takes it out and deletes it in the same step, before it shows you anything, and the database goes with it — the alternative is asking you to find the same document twice. If the page never arrives, because you closed the tab mid-click, the copy stays where it was written: the next time you open the home page or any of these PDF tools, it is deleted before anything else happens. You can also remove it yourself at any moment by clearing site data for shrink.run. It is your own file, it stays on your device, and nothing about it is sent anywhere.

If you star a tool or use a tool, its route — for example /compress-pdf/ — can be saved in local storage so Favorites and Recent tools work without an account. No file name, file type, document content or result is included. You can remove these route names by clearing site data.

Shrink.run can also be installed as a web app. Its service worker caches the site pages and versioned converter engines you actually use, so a previously opened tool may work offline. It does not download every engine during installation and it never caches your chosen files or generated results. Browser HTTP cache and this offline cache can both be removed by clearing site data for shrink.run.

Data we handle

We do not require accounts, do not set our own tracking cookies and do not collect personal information. Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical request data — such as IP addresses — to serve pages and protect against abuse; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Advertising

This free site may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. For more detail, see how Google uses information from partner sites.

Changes

If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page with a new date. The core promise will not change: your files stay on your device.
